Providing Modern Medicine with Old Fashioned Care.

Boys & Girls Club
The Gentle Vet Animal Hospital team worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay to set up a class called "Furry Friends". The club is considering adopting a pet to be housed there, and the doctors and team at The Gentle Vet Animal Hospital would like to provide husbandry and housing information, as well as veterinary care.

The staff met with the class of about 20-30 kids on Thursday afternoons at the Boys and Girls Club on University Avenue.  It ran for 11 weeks through the summer months.  We taught kids about pets and pet care, and included a weekly arts and crafts project related to the topic for that week. A few of the classes drew an especially large crowd.  Jennifer Virlee, one of the Certified Veterinary Technicians at Cat Care Clinic, brought her horse in for all of the kids to learn

about caring for horses.  Lori Bankson, Senior animal keeper at the
Wildlife Sanctuary, volunteered her time for one of the classes to teach the kids about wildlife safety and care.  We also had the Zoomobile visit one day to give the kids some hands-on experience with exotics.

Our goal was to use our knowledge of animal care to educate the youth about caring for their pets or animals that they come in contact with through friends and family.  We are still working with the Boys and Girls Club to adopt a pet that would fit into their club.
